Science Rotations in Ngake Hub
This term our main focus is the Nature of Science component of the NZ Curriculum. In the classroom we have been focusing on the idea of changes relating to solids, liquids and gases. We have also been learning to make detailed observations using our senses, and are working towards asking detailed questions to further our inquiring minds.
We have just finished doing a rotation day where the children mixed up across the hub into different groups and got to have a go at 4 different experiments. We made lava lamps, volcanic eruptions, scared pepper and made marbled milk, Here are some photos below of our experiments.

Swimming in our School Pool
Last week we started swimming lessons in our heated school pool with instructors from the Aquazone swim school. In Room 1 we are learning to be confident in the water, blow bubbles, put our head under the water and float on our fronts and backs with a board. In Room 3 and 4 we are learning to float and glide without support, kick and use arm circles. Swimming in our school pool is fun and we are showing lots of "Confidence" in the water which is our Term 1 C.A.R.E value for Term 1.
To celebrate the end of our swimming lessons, Ngake Hub had a fun swim time in the pool yesterday afternoon. Some of us participated in some fun races. We had an egg and spoon race, and a balancing a cup of water on our heads race. Next we all got some free time to splash about, play with some equipment. We had so much fun and Confidence in the water!

School Picnic at Khandallah Park
Last Thursday, the whole school went to Khandallah Park for a School Picnic. The sun was shining as we headed down to the buses with our buddies from Matairangi Hub. After we arrived, we sat down for morning tea, then headed to the playground where there was a flying fox, tunnel slide and rock climbing frame. After playing in the playground it was time for a swim in the outdoor pool. The water was a bit chilly but we still enjoyed it. After lunch, we went for a little adventure into the bush and explored an area around the stream. Some of us made leaf boats while others looked for living things in the water. It was lots of fun at the picnic and we can't wait for next year!
