This term our Inquiry topic is 'Creatures of Aotearoa'. To help us learn a little more about NZ animals the Ngake Hub took a trip to Wellington Zoo in Week 3 to take part in a learning session called "Unique New Zealand". Soon after we arrived, we walked up the path past the sheep to the barn. One of the zoo educators told us the story of Ngake and Whataitai and we split into groups to learn more about Weta, Kiwi and Kunekune pigs. We also got to hear the Maori legend of how the Kiwi lost its wings. After morning tea at Kamala's, we got to explore the zoo with our adult helpers. We saw the giraffes, chimpanzees, cheetahs, red pandas, sun bears, meerkats, ring tailed lemurs and so much more. We had a great day and learnt so much!
We were so lucky with the weather too, because soon after we got back from school it started pouring with rain!
