Kilbirnie School Sport's Day

We had such a wonderful time at our Athletics’ Day on Wednesday.
We were so excited when the bus arrived and on arriving at Newtown Park we were put into groups.  We had some of the older children from Rms 3 and 4 in our groups too.
We watched the Year 2 children doing sprints and then we went off to our different activities.  There were six activities:

  • The Sack Race
  • The Egg and Spoon Race
  • Three Legged Race
  • Vortex Throwing
  • Underarm Throw
  • Lilly Pad Leap
We spent fifteen minutes at each event and half way through we stopped for lunch.  The weather was so beautiful and we all had sunscreen and hats on to protect us.

Here are some extracts from the stories the children wrote the following day.

“I threw the vortex off and it went just like a rocket.  Mine hit Wendy and she laughed.”

“Ready! Steady! Go!  I was in the lead.  My friend and I fell down so I didn’t win.”

“My favourite thing was the sack race because there was lots of jumping.”

“Yeah we’re off to Athletics” We were the first to arrive at the park.  We did the sack race and on the practice, I won but on the real sack race I lost.

As you can see from the photos we had so much fun and next year, when we do these events again, we are sure we will be much better at them.

When we returned back to school, we were all very tired but we had the most amazing day.

End of term Staff v Student Netball game

On the Thursday, before the end of term, we all went down to the bottom court to cheer for our favourite team.  The teacher's team - wearing fancy head gear - played the girl's netball team.   The teacher were beaten and the girls were awarded a certificate,  in assembly for their outstanding victory!!  Well Done, girls!

The Crazy Science Show

On Friday, Richard Scholes came to Kilbirnie School to perform his science show called -  ‘Wild Weather.’  Richard, the crazy scientist showed us some wacky and fun experiments.  He demonstrated how precipitation forms, how snow is made and how tornadoes and cyclones are created.  We learnt a lot about weather and hope he can come back to teach us more.  What a great way to end a very busy week!

100's Party

For the last 100 days Room 3 and 4 have been learning about numbers. Each day we put a stick in the jar until we got to 100. Everyday we looked closely at the number to see if it was odd or even, what numbers came before and after the number of the day, and some number stories totalling our number of the day. When we got to 100 we celebrated with a maths party. Here are some photos of the delicious food we had.

Tennis Lesson

Here are some photos of Room 3 in action at tennis. We have had a great time learning some tennis skills.

Tomorrow, we will have another tennis lesson with our coaches. We been learning how to throw a tennis ball to our partner and stop the ball with a tennis racket.  We think we are getting pretty good at it! -

Every Friday afternoon, for the next four weeks, trained instructors from Wellington Softball will be teaching us new skills.  This Friday, the sun was shining and we were all looking forward to going down to the bottom court to learn how to throw and catch the ball.

Artrageous

We were really excited to welcome back Artregeous.  For  two weeks, on a Wednesday morning, we went into the hall and created a variety of art work for the art exhibition.  We made patterns using shape, rhythm and texture.
