This week was another epic instalment of our annual Ngake Hub Christmas Party. The children made some wonderful placemats, and party hats. There was a lot of delicious food and even a famous visitor to give out some little treats.

Mihi Whakatau
Over the last 2 weeks, Kilbirnie School has held a Mihi Whakatau each week. We do this to welcome any new children to our school. The manuhiri (students and staff) sing songs, and deliver some whaikorero to welcome the tangata whenua. The tangata whenua elect a parent to deliver their whaikorero and also perform a waiata. After the mihi whakatau is finished, the tangata whenua become part of the manuhiri and will sit with the manuhiri during the next mihi whakatau to welcome the new students.
Here are a few photos from our most recent mihi whakatau.

Ngake Hub Production
This week we finally got to present our Hub Production called Off the Planet
Our Inquiry topic for this term has been Space. We decided to incorporate some of our learning into our hub production.
Our production followed a Grandma and Grandpa reading the children a bedtime story. The story takes us on a trip through space where we meet some friendly aliens and take a tour of our solar system; learning about the planets, the moon and the stars along the way.
All of the children in the Ngake Hub did such a wonderful job learning the songs, the actions, their lines, their places on the stage and the art of performing. We are immensely proud of these kids for their huge achievement- It was an amazing show- one they will remember for years to come.
