Today. we had our Kilbirnie School Run-a-thon. The Junior classes ran laps on the bottom court and the Senior classes ran outside the school gates and around the block. Each time we ran a lap, we were given a mark on our hand to show how many laps we had run altogether.

SPACE PLACE
Here we are
on the bus on our way to Space Place. We
were so excited as many of us had not been to the Planetarium before.
When we
arrived at Space Place, we met Troy and Blake who were going to be our guides for
the day.
We split
into two groups. One group went into the Planetarium and the other group
went into a classroom where we learned all about the planets and stars.
Troy told us
all about the sun and how it gives out heat and light. We were amazed to find out that over a
million earths can fit inside the sun
Hugo, with
the help of a torch and Maya holding the moon, showed us how there is day and
night.
This is a
picture of us in our cosy seats looking at all the stars and planets. We also watched a show about two children and
a robot going into space to find out why we have seasons.

Genius Hour
On Tuesday,
Rooms 1 and 9 joined up for Genius Hour.
As this was our first time together, the Room 1 children were given a big buddy from Room 9. We spent
much of our first session getting to know our new buddies and deciding
on a ‘big question’ for our Genius Hour project.
We look
forward to the next time we all meet up and now we have a new friend to say “Hi” to in the playground.
Bernard Mangakahia and Mana -The Spirit of Polynesian
On Friday,
Bernard Mangakahia came to school to present ‘Mana. The Spirit of Polynesia.’ We all packed into the school hall ready for
the show. For an hour, Bernard performed
dances, told stories and encouraged us to accept new challenges, to have dreams
and to believe in ourselves.
Bernard
performed an American Indian Hoop Dance and a dance from Samoa. He showed us some amazing poi moves and got
us all onto our feet for a bit of Hip Hop.
Throughout
the whole performance, Bernard encouraged us to find the inner strength - our Mana.
What a great
way to end a busy week!
